ť Featured Clubs: A.R.C.O.N: Reports: A chequered result?
Well it's the third hunt of the season and the first 'Simple Equipment' hunt.
After last months debacle we are the fox again and so were determined to be heard all over the county!
10 Watts to a 5/8 antenna should do the trick!
To give everyone a fair 'crack of the whip' we decided to try to be as easy to find as possible. No hiding under bridges or by power lines, we just sat in a pub garden with our aerial smack in the middle of the car roof for all to see.
The only problem we could envisage would be the effects of the accumulating alcohol on our transmission quality and timing!

6 teams lined up for the start on a brilliant evening, blue skies and bright sunshine the perfect weather for a 'simple equipment' hunt.

19:30 First transmission and, slightly paranoid, I am out of the car with a separate radio checking that we are indeed radiating!
Signals at the start however were less than simple, some hunters were getting bearings to the south whilst two teams were convinced we were to the north of the hunt area. (we were in fact almost due west).

Several transmissions passed and the intrepid hunters are split widely around the map. Mike and Geoff headed towards Colwick but soon began to pick up the real trail swinging round towards QMC island. The G7WFM and M0RMJ teams conversely are heading north convinced we are in the Watnall area.

20:28 And first signs of activity. Who are these chaps in a dark car patrolling the car-park? Finally a deputation arrives at our car and declare 'you are the ARCON fox'
We have to admit we are, at which point they turn 'all smiles' and announce they are the Rolls Royce team G5RR. Relieved that they were hunters and not local neighbours looking for a cause of interference, we gave them the best news… they were first!
Jubilation followed, and they headed off to quench their thirsty necks.

21:05 and more smiling faces, Mike and Geoff come sauntering into the car-park having wandered all round the village. 2nd place, even bigger smiles, as this result puts them at the head of the championship!

21:09 and here comes another hunter, G8PWE on foot, again with tales of a village tour.

21:13 And the last team to find us rolls in, G6HRN, full of complements as to the wonderful time he has had trying to find us!

21:30 last transmission and the lonely voices of Adey (G7WFM) and Mike (M0RMJ) call in to ask why we aren't hiding in some brick works near Watnall. (Aparrently, our signal was so strong out there they were out of the car with 'close in' gear!)

Adey had to 'shoot off' whilst Mike was duly 'talked in' and the draw was made for the next hunt.

G7WFM was picked for fox G6HRN as reserve.

Don't forget its standard rules for the next hunt on July 18th, so get your roof racks dusted off!
