Three teams lined up for the second 'simple equipment' hunt on a fine sunny evening. The holiday period has certainly hit our numbers this month, so I was very pleased to see John, Arthur and Phil (team G5RR) and newcomers Phil and Vinny hunting under the G7JJZ callsign!

19:30 and no sign of a transmission. We are all pacing around trying to get a 'sniff' of a signal when 'thunk' Tim's unmistakable voice crackles from the speaker. Right….. re-synchronise those watches!! The bearing is to the south east passing through Burton Joyce.

19:40 and we are at the turning that drops down into Woodborough, the bearing is at right angles to the road, so Bingham, Car Colston area. OK we are on track but we now have a lot of yellow roads to negotiate. Should have gone down Westdale Lane methinks!

19:50 after a lot of messing about we are at the A6097 and about to head towards Lowdham

19:55 Magna Charta Island. We wait here to just make sure Tim is over the river and not using clever reflections. (now we're wasting time being too cautious!)

20:10 We find a great lay-by in the clear on the A52 just past Bingham. The bearings are really good and point to Aslockton or Thoroton. Signals still quite weak though!

20:15 Tim is transmitting but there is nowhere to stop.

20:20 Over the railway and now we are waiting at the turning that drops down into the village of Orston. The signal is clearly coming from the village, but we decide to pass through and get a triangulation.

20:25 Directly behind, so it's back into the village and down a narrow street that ends in a private road. Well he can't be down here, but wait a minute there is a bridleway to the right…I wonder?

20:30 Tim's on again and we follow the bridleway along it's contorted path until we arrive back in the centre of the village. What are we playing at?

20:40 Overwhelmed by the signal, he must be in the Durham Ox or very near by.

20:45 And we can hear Tim's voice over the pub's garden fence, (so much for radio detection!) We clock in second place 40 minutes behind team G5RR.
15 minutes later Phil G7JJZ arrives and we enjoy the rest of a very pleasant evening in the garden swapping stories and supping a well deserved pint!

G5RR were volunteered for fox next time, 19th September, which is a Minimum Mileage hunt, so 2CV's and Robin reliants are the order of the day!

Well done to all….Dave
